As I mentioned in my past post, it was so fun to pick Susan randomly as the winner of my Rabbit Hole contest as we were schoolmates long ago. For her winning shoot, she brought along her beautiful daughter Melissa and fun-loving boyfriend Tim. Here’s a quick description from Susan of who they are and what they were looking for in the shoot.
Melissa is 7 years old. She is quite the artist and dancer and especially loves dancing with Tim. She is my shining star and my “best girl”. Tim works for Sun with start ups in San Francisco. His passions include painting, cooking and dancing. I am a former teacher turned tech maven with a passion for photography and crafting. Winning this contest was quite a thrill for me as I love your work.
We chose an urban setting in SF and the Ferry Building to reflect our love of the city and of its culinary offerings. I love the pop and the color of the urban art of the Mission and we’ve certainly explored San Francisco through a journey of epicurian delights. The Ferry Building seemed the perfect spot to express our appreciation of food.
I think we captured just that! And what a blast.
Ok, my job was WAY too easy where Maria was concerned. First off, she is drop dead gorgeous, comfortable with the camera, and she has an adorable and super fun personality. We hit it off immediately!!
Maria and I decided on a shoot out at the Sutro Baths. The weather was a little dreary, but the smiles and personalities made up for the foggy skies. Maria brought along her amazing parents, who will be renewing their vows next year, and her two gorgeous friends (who happen to be sisters) Tiffany and Tamara.
With a tribute to Maria’s boot fetish and a few wardrobe changes, we got some incredible photos to round out Maria’s story. I hope you enjoy.

Dear Digital Friends,
I’ve gone down the rabbit hole and back again, and with the tremendous help of Miraclelabb (my social media gods!!) we have pulled a winner. Actually, two! Congrats to Maria Huddleson and Susan Vander Kooi Hobbs. They will both receive portrait shoots with Zoom Photography. I will be posting the photos after our sessions. I can’t wait!
Just a little background on my winners and how they plan to use their sessions. I am very excited to meet Maria in person, as I can already tell her personality is as big & beautiful as her smile. She is creative, full of life, and has tremendous energy and enthusiasm! When I wrote to her that she won, her response was so cute: ” I got your message while I was getting gas at Costco and literally screamed. People stared!” Maria was born in the Bay, her parents from the Phillipines and El Sobrante respectively. Family celebrations are huge in her life. And with a multicultural background, Maria has gained a broader mind and compassion towards people. Maria plans to attend nursing school in the Fall.
Our shoot will be in July. Maria plans to bring her parents and her 3 best friends. We also plan to do a fun photo story on her obsession with boots. I sit down for a consultation with Maria in two weeks. To be continued…
When we picked Susan, I was so happy. Not only did we attend school together when we were little kids, but Susan is a photography enthusiast and hobbyist. And so, I know the collaboration will be a blast. Susan grew up in Silicon Valley, and then, attended school in Southern Cal. Her career path starting as a teacher, quickly moved on to “tech maven”. Since her last company was sold, Susan has been taking some time off to enjoy life and her daughter, Melissa. Melissa is 7 years old and about to enter 2nd grade in the Fall. She will be the subject, along with Susan, of our photo shoot to be. We plan on active, natural, and candid photos of mom and daughter all over beautiful San Fran.
A big thanks to all my new Facebook friends and followers on Twitter. This giveaway might be over… but its been so much fun, we plan to launch another one this month. In honor of my ever-growing belly, tune in next week, a contest for all the Mommy’s and Mommy’s to be!
